Liberal vs. conservative, the US version

The Viscount Lacarte has a useful description of the philosophical difference between liberals and conservatives. I of course cannot understand why someone would disagree with his reasoning. He handles my ignorance with a citation from Jonathan Swift, "It is impossible to reason someone out of something that he did not reason himself into in the first place."
